There are many misconceptions regarding bats due to the fact they are a night creature. In the Orient bats are a sign of happiness, luck and long life. Less than 1% of all bats carry rabies and if a bat is infected they do not act wild and attack people. Bats do not swoop purposely to become tangled in human hair. They are responding to their nature and actually helping you by trying to eat the bugs/mosquitoes that have been attracted to you and as a result are flying around your head/body.
Due to misinformation many people are under the wrong impression that bats are bad, scary, evil and/or dirty creatures. When in fact just the opposite is true. They are very beneficial to our environment and should be respected as such. Proper information can help clear up any misconceptions about our bat friends.
