In an ideal world, a bat house should be mounted on a pole. Other options are to mount on the side of a structure or tree. Note: If mounting on a tree, the house must be mounted below the lowest limb so the bats can fly directly into the entrance to the house, which in most cases is located at the bottom. They will not fly through leaves or limbs to access it. If you cannot find a place on a tree that meets this requirement and still attain the correct height, you should look for a better place.
